Managing Solicitation Calls

Abby can help you manage unwanted sales or marketing calls based on how your call handling is configured.

How Solicitation Handling Works

Abby does not automatically block solicitation calls.

Instead, handling depends on your call configuration:

  • If you have a call type for “Solicitor” (or similar), Abby will classify the call and follow the actions assigned to that call type.

  • If no solicitor call type exists, the call will follow your general routing rules.

Blocking a number is a separate action that must be done manually.

AI Receptionist Accounts

For AI accounts:

  • Use the preset call type for “Solicitor.”

Common configuration option includes:

  • Say a scripted response like "Thank you but we're not interested"

  • End the call

The AI will only recognize and handle solicitations according to your configured call types.

If you want to permanently stop a specific number from calling, use the Blocking Callers feature in your portal.

Live Receptionist Accounts

For Live Receptionist accounts:

  • Solicitor handling preferences are established during onboarding.

  • Receptionists follow your documented instructions when identifying sales or marketing calls.

Common handling options include:

  • Sending calls to voicemail

  • Taking a message

  • Politely declining the call

If your preferences change, contact client support to update your call handling instructions.

Blocking a number must still be done manually within your portal.

Blocking Repeat Solicitors

If a specific number repeatedly calls:

  1. Go to Settings → Call Settings.

  2. Add the number to your Blocked Numbers list.

Once blocked, the number will no longer reach your AI or Live Receptionist.

Blocking is controlled only by the account holder.

Best Practices

  • Create a dedicated “Solicitor” call type for consistent handling.

  • Review your solicitor routing quarterly.

  • Block persistent spam numbers to reduce unnecessary call volume.

  • Test your solicitor call type to confirm it behaves as expected.
