Human Receptionist Backup

Learn about how humans are still supporting your AI receptionist and callers.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

The Abby AI Receptionist is designed to handle most calls independently. In certain situations, the system may transfer the caller to an Abby Human Receptionist to ensure the call is handled successfully.

This process is automatic and always available. No configuration or additional service is required.

Situations That May Trigger a Transfer

A call may be transferred to an Abby Human Receptionist when:

The caller requests a human

Examples include phrases such as:

  • “Can I speak to a person?”

  • “Operator”

  • “Representative”

  • “Receptionist”

The AI cannot understand the caller

This may occur if the system cannot confirm important information, such as a caller’s name or phone number after multiple attempts.

The caller expresses frustration

If the AI detects signals that the caller may be frustrated, the call may be transferred to a Human Receptionist to ensure a smooth experience.

Technical issues occur

If the AI encounters a system issue that prevents the conversation from continuing, the call may be transferred to a Human Receptionist.

What Callers Experience

When a transfer occurs, the caller is connected to an Abby Human Receptionist who continues assisting them.

The transition happens during the same call, so the caller does not need to hang up or dial again.
