Call Forwarding

This guide walks you through what call forwarding is, why it matters, and how to easily set it up so Abby can start answering your calls.

Updated yesterday

Call forwarding lets you send incoming calls from your number to another number. You will need to forward your main business number to the Abby Assigned Number that you are provided, this will allow us to answer calls for you. (You can find your Abby Assigned Number in your Dashboard in your portal below)

There are two main types of call forwarding:

  • Forward All Calls (Unconditional Forwarding)
Every call that comes to your number will be sent straight to your Abby receptionists

  • Conditional Call Forwarding (Available depending on your carrier)
Calls are only forwarded under certain conditions, like:

    • When you don’t answer

    • When your line is busy

    • When your phone is out of service or turned off

How to Set It Up

The steps to turn on call forwarding depend on your phone carrier. Each carrier uses different short codes or app settings to enable this feature.

What You Need to Do:

  1. Decide what kind of forwarding you want (forward all calls or just some calls).

  2. Contact your carrier’s customer service — they can give you the exact steps or codes to activate forwarding on your line.

  3. Have your Abby Assigned Number ready where you want calls to be forwarded.

  4. Test it by calling your main business line to make sure one of your Abby Connect receptionists answer it.

Important Notes

  • We can’t turn on forwarding for you — only your carrier can do this.

  • If you try to set it up yourself, most carriers let you dial special codes (like *72 to forward or *73 to cancel), but you’ll need to confirm which codes your carrier uses.

  • If something doesn’t work after you enable it, contact your carrier to double-check the settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if forwarding is active?

After you set it up, try calling the number that you forwarded. If the call rings through to your Abby receptionists as intended then it’s working!

2. Can I choose when to forward calls?

Yes! With conditional forwarding, you can set rules (like “forward only when busy” or “forward only when unanswered”). Your carrier can help you configure these.

3. Does call forwarding cost extra?

Most carriers don’t charge to enable forwarding, but forwarded calls may use your minutes or have additional charges depending on your plan. Please confirm with your carrier.

4. Can I turn forwarding off anytime?

Absolutely. You can disable forwarding by dialing a special code (commonly *73) or through your carrier’s app or website.
